The Armenian weightlifters won 6 gold and total 32 medals in Junior & U23 European Weightlifting Championships in Durres, Albania.

The Armenian national weightlifting team returned to Armenia yesterday, and Mediamax Sport talked to the medalists about their feelings after the victory.

Gor Minasyan (U23)

Successes in different competitions, especially victories are always filled with new and unforgettable emotions for any athlete. My victory in clean and jerk was yet another achievement for me.

I have not had a gold medal in clean and jerk for 4 years now. It is very important to feel that your victory makes a change for your country. It helps you achieve new successes.

Karush Ghukasyan

The kilograms that I lifted during training camps gave me hope for winning gold medal during the championship.

The competition was tough, as my competitor lifted almost as many kilograms as I did. I think I performed more confidently, which helped me win and listen to the Armenian anthem with pride.

I took part in the European Championship among adults at the beginning of this year. It motivated me to perform even better in U23 European Weightlifting Championship. I think 2017 was a successful year for me.

We make a great team: we cheer and feel pain for each other. All of us won medals, which speaks about our strength and quality.

Andranik Karapetyan

I had tough times after getting an injury during the Olympic Games in 2016. This is my first championship after overcoming the injury. It was very difficult but I knew that an injury can’t stop me from becoming a champion again and reach new heights.

Sona Poghosyan (U20)

This year was quite successful for me, as I won bronze medals in the European Championship among adults and World Championship among juniors.

My medal in the competition among adults gave me the hope to move forward confidently.

I have been waiting for this moment for the past 5 years. I wanted to win the first place and hear the Armenian anthem in my honor. I think it is the dream of any athlete.

I went to Albania for the gold medal. I knew all my competitors very well, so I only had to perform successfully in all the approaches my coaches ordered.

This was the greatest and most successful championship for our team, since we were all fighting for medals.  The atmosphere was warm; we supported each other, while coaches were always there by our side.

Arpine Dalalyan

I promised my brother who serves in the Army now that I will win the gold medal, people will hear the Armenian anthem, and I succeeded.

Simon Martirosyan

I am happy with my performance at Junior & U23 European Weightlifting Championships since I was able to repeat my record. I went to Albania to win the gold medal, and it is exactly what I did.
