Head coach of Armenian men’s weightlifting team Pashik Alaverdyan has announced that Simon Martirosyan will receive the gold medal for Olympic Games, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Ruslan Nurudinov (Uzbekistan) won the gold medal in Martirosyan’s weight category back in 2016. Four years earlier, he finished 4th in London Olympics. The International Olympic Committee found traces of prohibited substances in his London Olympics tests, which is why the 2016 gold medal was taken from him.
“I have already got the letter from the International Weightlifting Federation, which says that Simon Martirosyan should receive the gold medal. We expect Simon to get it in January 2020,” explained Alaverdyan.
