Araqel Mirzoyan had a sporting career full of ups and downs. He has been high and low and he talked about all this to MediamaxSport.

-Your first attempt in the Olympic Games was unsuccessful. What conclusions did you make from your performance?

-I have no wish to remember Olympics 2012. That was probably the worst day in my life. Maybe I wasn’t ready psychologically and everything happened in a blink of a second and I dint realize how.

-What do you mostly need to go to the Olympics?

-Hard work and willpower. You won’t succeed without blisters and suffering. I have already participated in one Olympics so participation is not my main goal here.

-You grew up in Olympic champion’s family. What did you learn from him?

-Discipline and respect towards people.

-What do you mostly like about Olympics?

-The status of an Olympic champion

-How is Olympic participant’s training different from normal session?

-If you differentiate between the tournaments you won’t be successful. You should get ready and put all you can in any competition.

-What’s the biggest call for the world and humanity?

-Unity, peace and power to strive

-How did Rio deserve to host the Games?

-Maybe because of the statue of Jesus (laughs). I think it’s a holly place as Jesus watches over everyone and protects.

-Who would you like to follow after your competition?

-Everywhere where there is an Armenian participating. I will support them with great pleasure and enthusiasm.

-How do you address criticism?

-Now, ok. I used to have problems addressing them. I understood that there are certain people that would criticise no matter what you do. There is no pleasing them.

-I know that you are a good cook. If we come over, what will you make for us?

-A dish made with rabbit or tomato omelette.

-Tell me something about yourself, please, that people don’t know

-I’m a very sympathetic person and I always try to please people. Plus, I’m hard working.

-Which holiday is your favourite?

-I love Easter and New Year holidays. I love the hustle and bustle of New Years, preparation of gifts, getting things for home.

-Please, finish the sentences. When I’m on the pedestal...

-I feel proud to have won a medal for our country.

- The most difficult thing about weightlifting...

-is to be ready at all times.

-The thing I like the most in our hymn...

-The “free, independent” part.
