We met with swimmer Artur Barseghyan in Republic Square. To make the photo series richer, we decided to continue shooting at the National Gallery of Armenia.

As part of Paris-2024 series by Mediamax Sport, we walked with Barseghyan in the square, explored the rich and infinitely impressive murals of our gallery, including works by Hovhannes Aivazovsky and pieces in the French halls.

The uniqueness of swimming: Swimming improves health, the body.

Preferred space: I have always loved 50m butterfly and freestyle, but there came a time when they no longer worked for me. Now I feel good in 100m freestyle, and it is no coincidence that I reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in that style.
Most impressive career achievement: Taking the 7th place in the Youth Olympic Games and ranking 13th in the adult European Games.

The Second Olympic Games: The Olympic Games are not some serious cosmic element. You don’t need to be afraid or stressed, you should take it lightly, spend good time and enjoy every minute.

- My strengths are kindness, goodwill and conscience. My weaknesses are kindness, goodwill, conscience. You have to be careful that no one takes advantage of them and causes harm.

- Artur, what is your favorite place in Yerevan?
- Saryan Street. Shooting at the National Gallery was a good idea. I have been here several times before and visited different exhibition halls. I enjoy studying works of art, especially those by Salvador Dali. But I had not been to the mural painting hall in our gallery, it calmed me down a lot.

- Being born in my family.

- That I have a family and my parents are by my side.
- Artur, what do you need to go to the Olympics?
- Will.

- You lived in France for a year. Are Armenians and French alike?
- No, I didn’t notice anything in common.
- Three things peculiar to Paris.
- The Eiffel Tower, the underground tunnels of Paris, the catacombs and the diversity of people.

- Baguette.

- Luc Besson’s “Angel-A” is an incredibly good movie.

- Fashion, in general, and its artists. They create real works of art from the simplest things.

- Is there a French athlete you have ever admired?
- Swimmer Florent Manaudou. He is a good athlete and an interesting person. I know him and I trained with him.

- Do you remember the first Olympic Games you watched on TV?
- In 2012, I watched Rūta Meilutytė’s performance in the women’s 100m breaststroke at the London Games. She was only 15 but became the Olympic champion.

- What does victory consist of?
- From weighing.
- What kind of team is the Armenian Olympic team and what do you wish for all of you?
- The team includes interesting people. I believe there will be good performances and medals. I wish everyone good health and the determination to pursue their goals.

Artur Barseghyan took the 6th place in the 2016 Youth Olympic Marathon
At the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and World Championship, he ranked 7th
He was 13th at the 2021 European Adult Championships
He is a gold medalist at the 2022 Army Games
He will participate in the Olympic Games for the second time.
