Amalia Sharoyan won the first Olympic quota in long jump for Armenian athletics team.
Mediamax Sport presents experienced athlete Sharoyan today.
- How did you choose athletics and started training?
- When I was little, my parents took me to gymnastics classes. I also played volleyball. I chose athletics in the 9th grade. I trained for several days, then I went to competitions and performed well.
- What does Olympic quota mean to you?
- I waited for it for a long time. Before I won the quota I thought it was the most important thing, now I understand that the Olympic Games are the priority.

- You live in Saint Petersburg. How does training go there?
- I train at a new hall in Petersburg, and many strong athletes attend it too. It definitely helps. Seeing highly qualified athletes, you ask yourself what stops you from being as good as them, what makes them better. You just have to work hard and strive for more.
- The coach is one of the most important people for an athlete. What is your coach like and how does he encourage you?
- We have a very good relationship, my coach trained my husband too. Tigran Yeghikyan always notices my mistakes, he knows my capabilities. Coach always tells me, “You put so much effort, don’t you want to see the result?”
- So your husband is a sportsman. How did you meet?
- At a training. We went to the town of Novi Sad in Serbia to participate in the European Cup. We didn’t know one another before that.
- How does sport help you in daily life?
- It helps stay in motion, be in a good shape. I found good friends thanks to sport.
- What was your best result and when did you get it?
- I set a 57.97s record for Armenia in 400m hurdles at 2013 World Championship. It hasn’t been broken yet. Another is the 6,72m jump I made in Albania, which earned me Olympic quota.
- What Olympics-related memories to you have?
- I followed 2012 London Olympics, as Natalya Antyukh, who trained with me, won a gold medal in 400m hurdles. I was happy for her.
