Armenia has won 7 medals in 3 sports in the World championships held this year.
The new photo story by Mediamax Sport presents the athletes who shone for Armenia in 2019.
This year has been great for weightlifter Simon Martirosyan: he took the gold in the European Championship and later won his second successive title of World champion. In addition, Martirosyan set a world record in the World Championship.

His teammate Hakob Mkrtchyan did not fall behind. 2019 has been the best year in his senior career yet, as Mkrtchyan won the World Championship. He already had the title of Europe’s champion when he went for the higher award.

Olympic champion, wrestler Artur Aleksanyan returned after long recovery from injury. After brilliant performance and a gold medal in the European Games, Aleksanyan was looking forward to another gold medal, but a rib injury prevented him from getting his 4th world title. Aleksanyan had to withdraw from the final match and take the silver medal, which gave him the Olympic quota as well.

Weightlifter Gor Minasyan left the poor performance in the European Championship, which was due to injury, in the past quite quickly. Minasyan increased the weight he lifted, compared to previous tournaments, and won the silver medal after completing all attempts.

Hovhannes Bachkov returned from every tournament, in which he participated, with a medal ever since the Rio Olympics. The Armenian boxers made fans happy this year too: he won gold medals in the European Championship and the European Games and added to his prizes the bronze medal he won in the World Championship.

22-year-old Slavik Galstyan also got a bronze medal in the World Championship. It was the first senior medal for the Greco-Roman style wrestler. Galstyan has changed his weight category since then to try to win Olympic quota.

Weightlifter Ruben Aleksanyan won his first medal in the World Championship this year. Competing in the heavy weight category, he won the bronze medals, the same as in the 2019 European Championship.
