The Armenian delegation will travel to the Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires on October 3.

Armenia will be represented by eight athletes in the summer games that will be held on October 6-18.

Head of the delegation Derenik Gabrielyan has told Mediamax Sport that the number of athletes is lower compared to the last two years because Armenia didn’t use the wild cards. Both in Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014, Armenia was represented by a team of 14 athletes.

“All our athletes won the quotas on their own. Our team is quite strong, it has winners and medalists of European and World championships. The athletes are holding the last training camps now. They will be provided with the necessary kits and equipment until September 28. Naturally, we aim for the win, otherwise our participation would make no sense,” said Gabrielyan.

The Armenia team features athletes from various sports: Karen Margaryan (77kg) and Liana Gyurjyan (63kg) are weightlifters, Sahak Hovhannisyan (60kg) is a Greco-Roman wrestler, Hayk Babayan will compete in shooting (pistol), and Andranik Khachatryan (73kg) will represent Armenia in the taekwondo competition.

Other members of the team are swimmer Artur Barseghyan (50m, 100m and 50m butterfly), rhythmic gymnast Yulia Vodopyanova and judoka Yuri Israelyan (55kg).
