Swiss bank UBS has frozen FIDE accounts, as the organization’s president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is present on a US sanctions list.

FIDE approached four other Swiss banks, but those negotiations were unsuccessful, The Financial Times reports. As a matter of fact, the chess organization is left without funding.

FIDE treasurer Adrian Siegel has asked all 189 national chess federations not to send funds to the parent body yet.
