Armenian footballers and fans have a long time to rest and watch Euro-2016 hosted by France as another football tournament passes us by. We have to wait for Mundial- 2018 qualification.

Mediamax Sport continues to find out the reason for our team’s failures in a series of articles. This time we talked to people who know a lot about football.

Football commentator Eduard Kalantaryan has been commenting our national team’s matches for a long time. According to him there are 2 reasons for failure.

Firstly, we wrongly chose the head coach. Bernard Challandes had such kind of football philosophy and mentality that was not suitable for our team. Sargis Hovsepyan had to correct the hard situation which he was unable to do. Secondly, our footballers were in unbelievably bad shape”, Kalantaryan explained.

He thinks that we don’t have a united team now as we had years ago.

Anyway, everything is in past now and its time to think about Mundial 2018. And we need a highly- qualified head coach not to blow it off as well.

“Anyone can be a head coach. If we want an excellent one, the choice is very big. If not, then I think head coach of Albanian national team Gianni De Biasi is an excellent example”, Kalantaryan concluded.

FAF member Edgar Petrosyan also thinks that the wrongly chosen head coach was the main problem.

“The federation had a variety of options but it chose Bernard Challandes. He was followed with an Armenian expert that had no experience. Sargis Hovsepyan was supposed to be their coach and elder brother. Unfortunately he couldn’t do his duties right”, Edgar said.

According to him, Armenian football needs a serious and caring attitude for it to be able to get out of this state. The head coach should be someone who has good experience and has earned his name. He should understand how to lead the team to victories.

Tito Ramallo the new head coach of FC ''Banants'' Yerevan watched Armenia-Albania match and thinks that the mistakes were mainly tactical: “There is a feeling like the team doesn’t have a potential. There are a number of individually good players but there are also many problems. I saw 11 differently thinking players during the match with Albania, but football is a team sport and everyone has to act as a team”.

Levon Pachajyan hopes that the criticism will have good impact on the players. “We should look back and discuss what happened over the last 2 years. This series of failures should make our footballers stronger who must play and win again. They could answer to the critics only from the pitch.
