Two gold medals and one bronze medal in one day – that is how Armenia’s Greco-Roman wrestling team wrapped up performance in the European Championship.

Artur Aleksanyan delivered one more history-making moment for the Armenian sport on the last day of Greco-Roman competition, winning his 5th European title.

The start of the final fight, which pitched Aleksanyan against Italy representative Nikoloz Kakhelashvili, was slightly nervous. Kakhelashvili earned a point, but Aleksanyan countered his moves.

The Italian athlete clearly studied Aleksanyan well, trying to get him to lose his temper, but Aleksanyan stayed calm and burst forward with a series of rolls, raking the score to 5-1.

The match ended 7-1. Aleksanyan added the 5th gold medal to his collection of European titles, which he won in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2018.

Armenia had another champion on that day as well – Gevorg Gharibyan (60kg weight class). Karen Aslanyan and Karapet Chalyan (77kg) won bronze medals.
