This year’s European champions from Armenia national freestyle wrestling team Vazgen Tevanyan and Arsen Harutyunyan won bronze medals in Junior World Championship.

The team’s Head Coach Avetik Vardanyan had more expectations from the championship, but he estimated the results as normal. He thinks that they could have won 2 more medals.

“Arman Andriasyan and Gegham Galstyan were close to winning a medal, but unfortunately, they didn’t succeed. The championship didn’t go as I would like to, but the results aren’t bad anyway. Arsen and Vazgen fell behind only future champions,” Vardanyan told Mediamax.

According to Vardanyan, coaches of competitors followed Armenian athletes attentively after the victory in the European Championship, so they knew their abilities. “This is normal after success, but we were ready too. The young men fought and showed great performance. They simply appeared in complicated groups, so it was harder for them.”

The Head Coach noted that Tevanyan and Harutyunyan will also participate in German Championship. Other wrestlers from the team will have some time for a break and then they will continue trainings.  The reserve team compete in Ukraine tournament, which will allow them to get acquainted with their strengths as well.

“Then Razmik Goletsyan Memorial International Free Style Wrestling Tournament will take place, followed by a training camp in Iran and then participation in another tournament,” Vardanyan added.
