Armenian Greco-Roman wrestling team is preparing in Yerevan for Olympics qualifying tournaments.
The first tournament will take place on April 15-17 in Serbia. Roman Amoyan (59 kg), Karapet Chalyan (75 kg), Artur Shahinyan (85 kg) and Edgar Khachatryan (130 kg) will perform there.
Mediamax Sport was present at the team’s training and talked with the team’s head coach Levon Julfalakyan.
We don’t have a wrestler equal to Roman now, and the latest European championship showed that he works with great zeal. Roman trains well and has a strong wish to get qualified.
Karapet performed well in Europe. Since the tournament in Serbia will be European and relatively much easier, we decided to give him an opportunity. If he happens to fail, Arsen Julfalakyan will perform in this weight category in the second tournament.
In 85 kg category, Artur Shahinyan and Maksim Manukyan are equal as wrestlers, we should give them both a chance to compete. Artur will perform in Serbia, and if we make a mistake then Maksim will participate in the second.
To be honest, we have issues with heavy weight. Edgar Khachatryan is a young and promising wrestler, hard-working and with great potential. However, contrary to other weight categories, we don’t have a substitution in this one. So he will participate in all three tournaments.
