7 freestyle wrestlers will present Armenia at European Wrestling Championship in Latvia on March 8-13.

The team’s head coach Arayik Baghdasaryan told Mediamax Sport that Garik Barseghyan (57 kgs), Volodya Frangulyan (61 kg), Davit Safaryan (70 kg), Grigor Grigoryan (74 kg), Shamir Atyan (86 kg), Andranik Galstyan (96 kg) and Levan Berianidze (125 kg) will go to the European Championship.

Freestyle wrestlers participated recently in the tournament in Kiev and won 3 bronze medals. According to the coach, although he isn’t very satisfied with the results, their primary goal was to prepare for the European Championship and qualifying tournaments.

“We had a training in Kiev before the tournament was launched. The boys trained heavily till the last day. We have time until important tournaments to give better performance,” stressed the coach.

Atyan will perform at the European Championship for the first time. He is still young and has never participated in that tournament before. Safaryan will perform in the under 70 kg weight category.

The team will train in Yerevan until February 23, and then leave for training in Belarus. Valter Margaryan, Varuzhan Kajoyan, Musa Murtazaliev and Edgar Yenokyan, who are preparing for qualifying tournaments, will also go with the team.
