Armenia national weightlifting team to depart for World Championship from Ukraine

The Armenia national women’s and men’s weightlifting teams continue to prepare for IWF World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

The coach of the team Vigen Khachatryan told Mediamax Sport that currently the men’s team trains in Abovyan and the women’s team – in Tsaghkadzor.

The men’s team will depart for Ukraine to hold the last training, and the women’s team will continue to train in Armenia. The whole delegation will depart for Pattaya from Ukraine on September 19.

Khachatryan noted that two weightlifters from the women’s team will participate in the event: Izabella Yaylyan (59kg) and Tatev Hakobyan (87kg).

Men’s team will involve European champion Andranik Karapetyan (81kg), European champion Hakob Mkrtchyan, bronze medalist of the European Championship Davit Hovhannisyan (89kg), silver medalist of the European Championship Samvel Gasparyan (102kg), European and World champion, silver medalist of the Olympic Games Simon Martirosyan (109kg), silver medalist of the World Championship and the Olympic Games Gor Minasyan and bronze medalist of the European Games Ruben Aleksanyan (+109kg).

This World Championship, where athletes will have a chance to gain points for the Olympic Games, will take place on September 18-27.
