Armenia’s junior weightlifting team brought home one medal from the World Championship in Suva. The medalist is Varazdat Lalayan, who lifted 419kg in the superweight class and took the gold.
The young athlete has told Mediamax Sport that it was a hard-fought win for him.
“I can’t begin to describe my impressions. I believed in myself and finally, I won. My teammates have been a great support, they helped me a lot,” he said.
Lalayan seized the gold medal by lifting one more kilogram that runner-up Ali Davoudi (Iran).
“I lost to him in the World Championship last year, but I prepared better this time and I had no right to give up. I was confident, and it helped me win in Suva,” added Lalayan.
The athlete highlighted the contribution of his coaches and the national team, and thanked them for their efforts.
