The teams of Armenia have won 29 medals, among them 14 gold, 11 silver and four bronze, at the U15 and U17 European Weightlifting Championships.
Head coach for the junior team Eduard Kizoghyan is happy with the team although he is sure they could do better.
“I had high expectations before the Championships as well. I knew the boys would achieve good results. Unfortunately, three got 0, but on the whole, I am happy. I hope they will pick up better medals next year,” said Kizoghyan.
Levon Manukyan and Sargis Kirakosyan have returned home with gold medals. The European Championships were their second major international tournament.
“There was tough competition. To tell the truth, I didn’t expect to win. I am overly happy for it and I should already start training for next tournaments,” said Levon Manukyan.
“We all managed to win owing to the correct work of the coaches and we are very thankful to them for that,” said Sargis Kirakosyan.
Head coach for the women’s team Arman Ghazaryan is happy with his athletes who worthily managed to win medals. “There are girls that are already candidates and members of the adult team. They should achieve good results to settle there. Let’s not forget that our adult team is very strong,” he said.
Gold medalists Aida Manukyan, Arpine Dalalyan and silver medalist Sona Poghosyan are also very excited about their victories. They believe they deserved a victory as they had trained much and had left for the Championships to have successful appearance there. After a few days of rest, they will resume trainings and get ready for the upcoming tournaments.
