The award ceremony for Armenian athletes who won medals at the XXXI Summer Olympic Games took place at the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan, Yerevan.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan handed high state awards to Artur Aleksanyan, Mihran Harutyunyan, Simon Martirosyan and Gor Minasyan, and congratulated them on successful performance at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Head coaches and athletes’ personal coaches of weightlifting and Greco-Roman wrestling teams were awarded as well.

President of Armenian National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan gifted apartments in Yerevan to Aleksanyan and Harutyunyan, an apartment in Gyumri and AMD 30mln to Minasyan, and AMD 30mln to Martirosyan.

It is worth reminding that Artur Aleksanyan won Armenia’s first Olympic gold after a 20-year interval, while Mihran Harutyunyan, Simon Martirosyan and Gor Minasyan won silver medals.
