Armenian Olympic team is looking forward with great anticipation to the launch of Summer Olympic Games on August 5 at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Mediamax Sport went to the Olympic Village and met Armenian Athletes at their temporary quarters. Representatives of the Armenia team are living in the village, which hosts over 10 000 athletes from 206 countries.

Armenian flags, hanging from the 17th floor of the building 24, are visible from afar. Naturally, we could not resist the temptation and went to the building.

At the gates we met our flag bearer, swimmer Vahan Mkhitaryan, and shooter Hrachik Babayan. They were hurrying to have lunch, but gladly stopped to talk to us and take several pictures. We were also joined by 6 other athletes from Armenian team, all excited and in a competitive mood.

Later, judoka Hovhannes Davtyan came out to train. He is to perform as soon as on August 6.

In Armenian team’s quarters, we received a warm welcome from gymnasts Artur Davtyan and Harutyun Merdinyan, as well as weightlifters Ruben Aleksanyan and Simon Martirosyan.

Chef de Mission of Armenia Derenik Gabrielyan, living next door, is busy with countless phone calls and various issues.

Things are really humming at the Olympic Village. Teams in colourful outfits, renowned and new athletes are at every corner, simply training, walking or gathering to sing and dance.

We leave the village reluctantly, as there is much more to see, but time flies so fast in Rio, so we have to manage our schedule.
