Hovhannes Bachkov is a strong-willed sportsman, not used to giving up easily. He won Olympic quota just a month ago.
Mediamax Sport presents the Olympic interview of Bachkov.
- You won the quota in the last competition. How did that happen?
- I didn’t have quota after so many tournaments, and it was hurtful for me. However, I believed that it couldn’t remain so, and a door will open. So it happened. I patiently waited for the Venezuela tournament and returned from it with a victory.
- This is the first time our boxing team brings 5 athletes to the Olympics. How did you achieve that?
- The most important thing is that we believed in ourselves.

- Which Olympic Games were the most memorable and impressive for you?
- 2008 Beijing Games. I saw our boxers in the Olympic ring for the first time. Hrachik Javakhyan won a medal. Since that day, I dreamed of taking part in Olympic Games.
- Which sport would you choose if you were a Brazilian?
- I would play football, be a forward.
- What is the greatest message of the Olympics to the world and people?
- The strongest athletes gather at Olympic Games. The world enjoys their competition.
- What makes your sport different from other sports?
- Boxing requires quick thinking in the ring.
- What keeps you in sport?
- I love boxing. Strong athletes have always been an example for me, showed that sport both brings fame and helps keep a healthy lifestyle.
- Hovhannes, what are you like as a sportsman?
- Very patient and aggressive.
- Which boxer’s success inspired you?
- Mohammed Ali, Roy Jones, Armenian boxers Arthur Abraham and Vic Darchinyan.
- What was the most important advice you received?
- My uncle, who was a boxer too and inspired me to choose this sport, told me to never give up, fight to the last breath.
- Which song reflects the best your career in sport?
- Our Olympic hymn, it is very inspiring.

- You are from Gyumri. What is the secret of Gyumri, the sport city?
- As it’s a secret, I won’t tell you (laughs - edit.).
- What does Gyumri have that other cities don’t?
- Unique people live in that city, making it so special and proud.
- Why should wars stop?
- Many people are harmed by the wars, especially children. Was brings poverty, which harms the country too.
- Your favourite Armenian holiday.
- I love Vardavar, it’s a beautiful holiday that has no analogues.
- Do you have a pet?
- I never did, but I decided to give a puppy to my son.
- Your character traits which you don’t like or which make troubles for you.
- I think too long on problems.
