Mediamax Sport had an interesting and fun interview with Monika Vasilyan
- How did swimming attract you?
- The quality that makes swimming superior is water. I’m calm in water, relaxed and music starts to play in my ears. Swimming takes me to another reality.
-What music was accompanying you today?
-If I’m honest, I was just thinking today. I knew you were coming, so was trying to figure out what questions you would be asking and how the interview would go (laughs). But, generally, I might even compose something and sing to myself.

-They say in order to become a good swimmer you have to do double the work outside of the pool.
-Yes, you need to be physically fit to feel good in pool.
-Monika, let’s speak about Olympic Games that’s the first for you. What does it mean for you?
-Participating in the Olympics was a dream for my father and me. Unfortunately, he died a couple of months ago but I managed to make his dream come true and going to Rio to participate in the Olympics. I’m very happy for that and will try to do anything to reach good results.
-They say swimmers don’t like the start, why?
-The start is very tense. It’s because of the tension that swimmers jump early or late sometimes. If you hear a small noise, you jump in subconsciously, but when you are already in water everything passes and you start to compete.
-What’s your main goal in Rio?
-Improving my own record. It used to be 27.27 now I’m working on 26
-If you were Brazilian, what sport would you do?
-Swimming or tennis.
-If you were a cartoon character, what would you be?
-I would chose to be mermaid.
-Monika, let’s finish the sentences, please. Every time coming out of the pool…
-I’m thinking about rest as I have to get ready for the second training.
