Boxer Vladimir Margaryan will represent Armenia in 69 kg category at the Olympic Games, and Mediamax Sport introduces him in today’s interview.
- How did you choose boxing and make your first steps in sport?
- We always had boxing gloves at home, as my father was a boxer too. He made me and my brother fight everyone who came to our house.
- So sport is in your genes.
- Yes, my dad was a master in sports, but quit his career because of the war. He fought in the war for Artsakh.
- Vladimir, what motivates you the most?

- Our team members motivated and encouraged me a lot. When I saw them grow and win medals, I believed I would succeed too.
- What helped you perform so well in Turkey when Artsakh was at war and we had many casualties?
-We trained so well before the tournament that we just couldn’t perform badly. Training was harder than the tournament itself.
- What do you have to give up for sport?
- In fact, sport gives more than it takes. We’re surrounded by many dangers, and sport helps stay away from them.
- Do you remember the first Olympiad you watched on TV?
- It was the Olympiad of 1988, where Roy Jones took part.

- What famous athlete would you like to meet in Rio?
- I really want to see Ronaldinho, he was a great football player and one of my favourite sportsmen.
- What do Armenians and Brazilians have in common?
- They love soap operas (laughs - edit.).
- Which of your character features brings you trouble?
- I’m very kind, and that usually works against me.
- Your favourite place in Armenia.
- Lastiver, it’s a wonderful and beautiful place. If you haven’t been there, you should visit Lastiver.
- Do you or did you have a pet?
- We had a dog for 15 years. Gita was our family’s favourite, we all loved her very much. She passed away recently, I can’t say “died” about her. She was very smart, and we miss her a lot.

- Let’s make sentences together. I start, and you finish. What I miss the most during trainings is …
- My girlfriend, she’s from Gyumri and we can’t meet often.
- What I appreciate in people the most is…
- Honesty.
- First, boxing is…
- A part of my life.
