The world was shocked by the tragic news about the deaths of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, U.S.
President of Armenia’s basketball League A Ara Poghosyan considers the passing of former Los Angeles Lakers star, holder of two Olympic titles and five NBA titles a hard blow to the international basketball community.
“We have a good relationship with his father Joe and family. We negotiated with Joe Bryant, we wanted him to manage Armenia’s national team. He helped us so much to select players from the United States. I offered him my condolences as soon as I learned about the tragedy,” said Poghosyan.
He stressed that Kobe Bryant was not only a basketball player but also one of America’s best ambassadors to the world. “People like him make America powerful. Our club Urartu wears kits we got from Lakers because I am a big fan of Kobe. His death is a huge loss. We don’t event comprehend the scale of it yet. It is also painful to realize that the pilot of that helicopter, who died as well, was Armenian,” added Poghosyan.
