Urartu BC has won its first trophy, the EAEU Cup held in Yerevan. The club lost the first game and won the other two to take the cup.

Urartu head coach Mikael Poghosyan and President of the club Karen Giloyan have summed up the tournament.

This trophy is great not just for Urartu, but for Armenia as well.

We should have won with an 8-point margin in the last game to win the tournament. I told the players: you go onto the court with a negative margin of 8 points. In the end, the margin was 20 points.

It has been an interesting competition. The other teams played faster, their level is different to the Armenian League A. We will try to have that level in Armenia too.

The players felt obliged to win the first game, they were too tense, which is why they lost it. Later they found their game, followed the right strategy. In the last match, they were just brilliant.

Our guests were happy with the way everything was organizes. The ambassadors of the participating countries liked the concept of this tournament and expressed readiness to support it in the future.

We plan to make it an international league such as the Baltic and Adriatic leagues. Of course, our league won’t be on that level initially, but they started from scratch too.

We will discuss the possible format of the league and figure out what we can do. One thing is clear, though: Urartu is ready to play in European championships and compete with strong teams.
