The short film ‘Dear Basketball’ by Former Los Angeles Lakers and USA player Kobe Bryant has been nominated for an Oscar.
The film is adapted from the poem of the same name Bryant wrote before ending his basketball career in 2015. The player spoke beautifully about the sport, sharing his love for it. This is how he began the verse:
“From the moment
I started rolling my dad’s tube socks
And shooting imaginary
Game-winning shots
In the Great Western Forum
I knew one thing was real:
I fell in love with you.
A love so deep I gave you my all —
From my mind & body
To my spirit & soul.”
Animation artist Glen Keane (Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Aladdin’) and five time Oscar nominee John Williams worked on the film. Bryant himself performed as the narrator.
The Oscar ceremony will take place on March 4 in Los Angeles.
