Albert Azaryan Cup, an artistic gymnastics tournament named after the Olympic champion, will not take place this year.
Armenia’s Gymnastic Federation Secretary General Garnik Saroyan told Mediamax Sport correspondent that such a decision was accounted by lack of apparatuses meeting international standards.
“We received quite a lot of applications from Iran, Syria, Qatar and Georgia, however, we found it right not to hold the tournament this year. The reason is we don’t have good apparatuses. The Ministry promised to have this issue solved by next year. Works aimed at acquiring apparatuses for floor exercises are already underway,” said Saroyan.
Albert Azaryan Cup has been held since 2005.
