“Mediamax Sport” continues to represent “Sports beauty of the week” series.
Over the recent years women have often been involved in such sports in which their presence appears at least strange for men.
While hearing the word bodybuilding, you probably imagine the strong muscles and the brand smile of Arnold Schwarzenegger. But this week’s athlete is going to prove, that bodybuilding is not a pure male sports, and that she is able to smile and show her muscles as Schwarzenegger does. Originally from Sweden, Nordin moved to USA and started to work as a model, fitness and bodybuilding trainer.
-Pauline, you started bodybuilding trainings at the age of 8!!! What about playing in the yard with friends and bright childhood?
-It was my sister who played I was a bodybuilder. She was inspired by our dad who had a training machine at home. But, I was a loner, didn't really have any friends. Between the age of 12-17 I starved myself, because I wanted to be very thin. I jogged and did sit-ups, chin ups and push ups, but no matter what I did, my thighs remained too soft and I was skinny fat. At the age of 17 I found a fitness magazine, and was intrigued by the cover model. I decided I wanted to look like that. In the magazine I learned it would take discipline regarding diet and training, which I really liked. I needed discipline. I signed up at the local gym, told them I was going to compete three years later at 20. Said and done.
-What's the best way for a woman to get in shape and sculpt her body?
-Train heavy, eat right and do it for a long time. Train like a hulk to look like a ballerina.
-How do you combine Body Building and Fitness?
-Bodybuilding is the tool to sculpt your physique just like a sculptor has his tools and clay. Fitness is a lifestyle where you are in shape from the inside out.
-''When I work out, my ambition is to push my body harder and harder every time to see how much it can take, how much pressure it can stand…'',- once you have noted. How many hours you can train without having rest?
- Well, how long you can VS how long you should are two different things. Weight trainings last 60-70 minutes, 5-6 days a week. Cardio is between 20-90 minutes. I separate these sessions into two to get best post exercise metabolic boost. Extensive training increases stress hormones which are necessary for starting the rebuilding process, but they should not be chronically elevated as will be when you constantly over train.
-Is there really any difference between fitness program for women and men?
-In case of training wise, women tend to have weaker joints and cannot take as much volume as men, however it's individual and tolerance will increase with experience. Women and men shall both train heavy to build muscle. Women have very little testosterone then men, so we simply cannot turn into big hulks unless drugs are used. Drug use is unfortunately very common and it's sad since with time and patience all women are able to tone up naturally. It's a slow process but on the other hand you don't get any side effects and maintain your health.
-What is your diet like today?
- I don't eat until I've trained. First meal is usually around 12 pm post cardio. Oat bran, whole flax, cinnamon, whey protein, then in the afternoon I have a protein shake, pre and post training Aminos, at night the biggest meals after weights: lots of vegetables, lifetime cheese and a little olive oil. Around 10 or 11 pm I have a dessert mix: non fat plain greek yogurt, 100% chocolate, cocoa powder, stevia. I mix it all together and eat it with a spoon.
-You are the founder of FighterDiet. Could you please describe the main content of the website?
- I offer lots of eBooks with workout programs, diet plans, mental training, guides to hormonal health etc. All to help others get fit. There are also tons of articles, inspirational writings, testimonials and video clips.
-What are the main points of your “to do list” in 2014?
-Maintain a lean physique, stay and constantly improve my health. I'm big on blood work and have extensive testing of all kinds of aspects to see what training and nutrition does on the inside. Business wise long term goals are to keep on helping people by offering them Fighter Diet.
-Best beauty tip from you to our female readers.
-Wear sunscreen. ALWAYS!!!
-What’s the latest, most exciting thing happened to you recently?
-Oh, that's hard! My life is pretty much my dream. I came from Sweden to America and was granted citizenship this year. That was my number one goal and it's now accomplished.
-What are the stereotypes people have of you as a female athlete?
-They say that I take steroids, that I'm very big in stature, or that I'm stupid! (laughing)
-Any funny moment you can remember from your career?
-Yeah, one week before my first show I was so hungry that I started panicking. I could be found lying on the couch crying, I just wanted to eat! Then, I had some blueberry tea with sweetener and got happy again. It's just a sign of the all or nothing mentality… It was my first time dieting to contest shape and it was quite gruesome. Bodybuilding is a slow process and not until you learn how to love the every day habits, it will not answer you with same dose of love.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the readers of “Mediamax Sport”.
