Manchester United will host FC Basel in the first game of the Champions League group stage today.

The Mancuanians’ manager Jose Mourinho noted ahead of the game that he felt weaker without Marouane Fellaini in the squad. The midfielder might miss tonight’s game due to injury.

“He’s a very important player for me, much more important than you can imagine. Whether he’s in the starting XI or on the bench, I am weaker if he can’t play. If his condition improves he will be selected, because I need him,” said the manager.

David de Gea will guard United’s goal tonight, although Sergio Romero was the main choice in Europa League last season.

“I do what I think is right for the team. I don’t like to put a strict division of “I play here and you play there”. I think at this moment David [De Gea] is playing very well and is very confident. I will go with David again,” added Mourinho.

De Gea told the press he always aims to be the best: “I train hard to improve, I work really hard in training to be the best keeper in the world. I don’t know who is the best in the world at the moment, but this is what I want - to be the best. I feel very confident.”

He noted that Basel is a tough opponent and it’s a new challenge for them to play with the best teams in the Champions League.
