Today Armenia national football team will play its next Euro 2016 qualifying match. This time Serbia will host Armenian players.
After this match we will no longer see one of the most devoted and favorite players of the team, who used to keep the goal and wear the captain’s armband. 19 years and 93 matches, a number of bright and memorable moments – this is how we will say goodbye to Roman Berezovsky, one of the most outstanding goalkeepers in the history of our national team.
Although the team is a changing “structure” with continuous change of players (some leave, others come to replace them), there are players to the absence of which is hard to get used.
For the first time in many years we see the list of our national without our favorite and irreplaceable captain Roman Berezovsky. He announced his intention to leave the team a few months ago. We used to think we had much time to cope with that idea but it proved to be really hard.
It’s no secret there are not irreplaceable coaches or players. Everybody has their “instant” during which they should do their best to leave their trace and name. Berezovsky is indeed unique in this regard. There is hardly any fan who does not admire his humane and football qualities, devotion and humility, exceptional tranquility and correct orientation.
Berezovsky has long morphed into a symbol of reliability and trust. Even the fact he was in the goal used to bestow trust on the fans and teammates. He was one of the truest legends of Armenian football and always remained at the top and loved despite the national’s ups and downs, losses and victories.
Once the old captain leaves, Henrikh Mkhitaryan will come to replace him leading the team behind him. Rejoicing is the fact that the midfielder’s fame is growing day by day in Armenia and across its borders. He has been playing fantastically beautifully this season, is in excellent form and the presence of such a leader is undoubtedly a pleasure. Much depends on Mkhitaryan’s game both for Dortmund club and for the national.
