Goalkeeper for the Armenia national football team Roman Berezovsky has decided to cap his career at the age of 40.

“Presently I work at the coaching headquarters of Dinamo youth team and am gradually getting used to the new position. I should say that everything happened quite unexpectedly. I was planning to play for the national team, but the match with the Portugal team changed my plans,” the goalkeeper told NVSPB.ru.

According to Berezovsky, the results the Armenia team was recently showing were relatively weak. “I take the “lion’s share” of the guilt upon me as in the majority of the matches the team missed goals while being ahead. We were losing the thread of the match and important three points. We should be optimistic about everything that’s going on around us; it’s better to be a prospective coach than an aging athlete.”

The goalkeeper noted that interim head coach for the national team Sargis Hovsepyan still has hopes for him. In addition, Berezovsky himself does not want to leave the team as it has become very dear for him. “I have been playing for the national team for 19 years and have always felt the warm attitude of my fans, teammates and coaches. I am convinced we will continue to cooperate in any case,” stressed Berezovsky.

He noted that he will have a farewell match and will express his warmest gratitude to his fans.
