Andranik Teymourian is the first Christian to lead Iran’s national football team as its permanent captain.
“I’m happy that as a Christian I play in a Muslim team. I have Armenian roots but I hold the Iranian passport and I’m proud of that, I hold my flag high. I hope I can enhance the good reputation of Armenian people in Iran”, theguardian.com quoted Teymourian as saying this.
Teymourian has been playing in Iran national football team since 2005. Over 10 years, he played in 90 matches and scored 8 goals. In 2006 and 2014, he took part in the World Cup.
