The race for the two spots in Candidates Tournament begins on May 17, as the 2019 FIDE Grand Prix Series kicks off in Moscow.
The four-tournament series will be held over one year and feature 22 of the world’s top players. The players will be also competing for a total of EUR 800,000 in prizes.
Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian will be among 16 players competing in Moscow. The first tournament of the Grand Prix series will conclude on May 30.
The tournament will have a knock-out format. Each round will consist of two classical (or slow) games, followed by faster tie-breaker games if necessary.
