Aronian’s successful last round and his victory in Sinquefield Cup

Sinquefield Cup has finished in St. Louis and 3 players at once became winners for the first time.

Levon Aronian won the competition against Alexander Grischuk (Russia) in the last round, and Magnus Carlsen defeated Hikaru Nakamura. Fabiano Caruana shared points with Wesley So.

 

These 3 chess players scored 5,5 points each. According to the rules, the winner should be announced in tie-break, though in case when 2 players have equal amount of points. Thus the additional indicators were taken into account, but it turned out that all the 3 players had the same amount. 

 

Finally, the organizers decided to announce Aronian, Carlsen and Caruana as winners. This has been the first similar case in the history of the competition.
