Vladimir Kramnik has topped the Candidates Tournament table after beating Levon Aronian in the third round.

The Russian player has earned 2.5 points and Aronian currently sits 6th with 1 point.

“I wanted to finish the game in style, but on the other hand, I was afraid of committing an error and making a fool of myself, as I could have won in a simpler way,” Kramnik said after the game.

Fabiano Caruana and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov have 2 points each.

Today is a day-off for the players. On March 14, they will start Round 4. Aronian will play with Sergey Karjakin, who also has 1 point.
