Our chess team leaves Ukraine behind owing to Aronian’s victory



Men’s chess team of Armenia has gained its first victory in World Team Chess Championship in Tsakhkadzor.

The Armenian grandmasters played with one of the leaders –Ukraine. Levon Aronian who proved to be stronger than Ruslan Ponomaryov earned the point that secured victory for our team.

Gabriel Sargsyan tied Vassily Ivanchuk and Hrant Melkumyan tied Alexander Moiseenko. Sergey Movsisyan was the last to end the game. Playing with white pieces, he shared his points with Pavel Eljanov.

The Armenian team won 2.5-1.5 and earned its first team point.
