The Championship of Armenia has started at Yerevan Dinamo Stadium. 100 boxers fight for the title of the winner.

The Championship will be decisive for the athletes as based on its results the boxing team of Armenia that will take part in the most important tournaments throughout the year will be formed. One of them is Baku 2015 due in summer. Armenia will be represented in six sports, among them boxing.

President of Boxing Federation of Armenia Artur Gevorgyan noted that the boxers to leave for Baku will be selected among the winners of the Championship. Only the best will have a chance to fight there.

“They will be selected by the Federation, but the opinions of the athletes will also be taken into account. Nobody will force them to go against their will. The athletes already have a practice in Baku. Baku is where Andranik Hakobyan earned an entry for London Olympic Games. I am sure this time as well we will perform successfully and return with medals,” he said.

According to him, Armenia unfortunately does not have high-quality boxers in all weight classes and therefore it is likely we will not have Armenian boxers in all weight classes at Baku 2015 European Games.

Gevorgyan believes this time it will be easier for the Armenian athletes in moral and psychological terms as highest security guarantees have been given: “The athletes are more resolute. It will also be the first time the Armenian team will stay in the Olympic village along with others and not in a separate hotel like in the previous times.”
