September 8 morning was not only peaceful for Armenia but victorious. The news from the faraway Las Vegas was more than encouraging for us. It’s the second consecutive year that Arthur Aleksanyan, bronze medalist of the Olympic Games and three-time European Champion, has become a World Champion.

Not every country can score such a brilliant victory, indeed. And sometimes our generation representatives are sad because they didn’t see the victories of Ararat-73, Olympic victories of our sportsmen, Tigran Petrosyan’s “crowning”. But at the same time, we don’t understand that we stand by the new sportsmen and witness their new achievements.

It’s beyond doubt that the titled sportsman will continue his career. However, it’s hard to conceive where he draws his strength and zeal from. He does his best at the trainings. He’s a real professional in all the senses. At the same time, he’s extremely modest and has the sense of humor and charisma typical to Gyumri people. His example teaches us to be more goal-oriented and stubborn and never to retreat at the critical moments.

He gave our country not only the joy of the victory which we needed. For a while, we all forgot the tension on the border, our football team’s failure at the EURO-2016 and our personal troubles and problems. Arthur gave us a bright day which our next generations will be envious for.

Arthur is a hero of our times. We need them. Their victories undoubtedly give us extra hope and faith.

P.S. Perhaps, many people may spot some traces of exaggeration or praise in the lines. But when else but at those moments of victory that we live for should we extol and thank our sportsmen who raise our country’s reputation on the globe?
