Armenia’s Greco-Roman wrestling team won one medal in the Junior World Championship thanks to the effort of Malkhas Amoyan (66kg), who brought silver home.

Mediamax Sport talked with the team manager Armen Babalaryan, who summed up the tournament.

“I consider our performance satisfying. Many of the athletes came to the junior team just recently and they don’t have appropriate experience and skills yet. Malkhas almost got the gold. He was winning and the rival pushed him off the mat in one short moment of rest. That situation is debatable: someone says he deserved one point, others say he deserved two. In our case, the rival athlete got two points and Malkhas got the silver medal,” the head coach said.

Babalaryan noted that Tigran Minasyan and Hrachya Poghosyan were also close to winning medals. The coach is equally pleased with Davit Ovasapyan. “I repeat, they are new to this level and they have plenty of time to work and grow,” he said.

The team will resume training soon to prepare for international tournaments of the autumn.
