Having registered a victory in Gibraltar Open, Levon Aronian said that he had certain gaps during the classical chess pairings, but he was able to return the lost points and achieve the leadership.

“I performed well in tie-break. I played against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in Chess World Cup as well, and I know the psychology of acting in tie-break. I am honored to able to win the competition,” Aronian said.

The Armenian grand master noted that he is always positive about any competition and tries to do his best to win. The Candidates Tournament to be held in March is no exception.

“Every chess player including myself dreams of participating in world championships. So you need to believe, try and aspire. I will be able to train and have some rest before the Candidates Tournament, which is also very important,” the chess player said.
