Armenia has concluded the national freestyle wrestling championship. As in previous years, the number of participants wasn’t high: about 90 young athletes from Yerevan and marzes competed in the championship.
Gold medals went to Vaghinak Matevosyan (57kg), Arsen Harutyunyan (61kg), Vazgen Tevanyan (65kg), Davit Safaryan (70kg), Varuzhan Kajoyan (74kg), Grigor Grigoryan (79kg), Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86kg), Sargis Hovsepyan (92kg) and Andranik Galstyan (125kg).
Secretary General of the Armenian Wrestling Federation Arayik Baghdadyan told Mediamax Sport that the young wrestlers impressed with their performances and tough competition.
“They make senior athletes work and compete harder. The national team is going to have a completely new squad after the Olympics and mostly include young athletes. We will get a very good, strong team. Succession of generations is a necessity,” said Baghdadyan.
