50 medals: Weightlifters depart for U20 and U23 European C’ships

The U20 and U23 national weightlifting teams have departed for Bucharest to participate in the European Championships.

Earlier Head Coach of the men’s team Pashik Alaverdyan said that he wishes to bring the number of medals to 90; currently, the weightlifters have 40 medals. The compositions of the Armenia national teams and the number of athletes with titles are significant.

World and European champions this year Hakob Mkrtchyan (89kg) and Simon Martirosyan (+109kg) are among the athletes U23. Bronze and silver medalists of the European Championship Davit Hovhannisyan (89kg) and Samvel Gasparyan (102kg) are also involved. 8 weightlifters will represent Armenia this time.


World champion among juniors this year Varazdad Lalayan (+109kg), winner of the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 Karen Margaryan (81kg) will compete among athletes U20.

The first athlete to compete in the European Championship will be Monte Mkhitaryan (55kg).
