Rio de Janeiro launched the Paralympic Games with a beautiful and exciting opening ceremony.

Paralympic athlete Aaron Wheelz gave the start for the ceremony at Maracanã Stadium. He jumped through a giant ring on his wheelchair, after which the ring caught fire.

The viewers witnessed a wonderful performance and listened to Brazilian music. Just like at the opening of the XXXI Olympic Games, the stage looked like an ocean, showing famous beaches.

Then it was the athletes’ turn to draw everyone’s attention. Armenian Olympic team’s flag bearer was Greta Vardanyan (weightlifting). Margarita Hovakimyan (swimming)also took part in the opening ceremony.

Around 4500 athletes from 159 countries will compete in Rio until September 18.
