Secretary General of the Armenian National Olympic Committee Hrachya Rostomyan concluded today the results of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio. Armenian team returned with one gold and three silver medals.

Rostomyan noted that the committee is satisfied with the medals, but obviously, believes the team could win more. He also talked about Armenian team’s mistakes and the events outside of their control, such as Andranik Karapetyan’s injury.

“We had great hopes for freestyle wrestling and boxing, but our expectations were not met for both objective and subjective reasons. We will discuss these issues with federations soon,” Rostomyan said.

However, he is happy with the results of the weightlifting team. Weightlifters Gor Minasyan and Simon Martirosyan became silver medalists. Rostomyan believes that the weightlifting team is one of the most competent and has a great potential. It has young athletes and anticipates getting on world top 5 in the nearest future.

“Mihran Harutyunyan’s final match was refereed in a shameless, dishonorable manner. Appealing for the match isn’t easy, as passiveness is a subjective matter defined by the referee. We are working with the Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport. We hired lawyers to determine how we should appeal, and we will do it once we settled that issue. We don’t despair, we are working on this. Our only concern is to get back the medal,” added Secretary General of the Armenian National Olympic Committee.
