Armenia’s junior Greco-Roman wrestling team returned from the European Championship with 4 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze ones.
The wrestlers’ time in Pontevedra was marked by unrelenting struggle, important medals and impressive wins. Mediamax Sport presents the story in the photos below.
The gold was won by bronze medalist of last year’s European Championship, world champion Malkhas Amoyan (72kg weight class).

Amoyan was the best in his weight class in Pontevedra. He entered into the competition in the qualifying round and won 5 matches. The final put him against Mihai Petic (Moldova). The Armenian wrestler beat Petic 8-0 ahead of the time and made a circle around the mat, holding the Armenian flag.

The silver came courtesy of Hayk Melikyan (67kg). He won matches in style and his winning streak lasted until the final, when he lost 0-9.

Melikyan’s opponent was Giorgi Shotadze (Georgia).

The match for bronze medal in 60kg weight class turned out very entertaining and dynamic. Armenian athlete Sahak Hovhannisyan acted quickly against Myroslav Solovian (Ukraine).

He left no chances for the Ukrainian to turn the match around and won 9-0 ahead of the time.

Another bronze medal was won by Hrachya Poghosyan (63kg). He also won the match ahead of the time.

It took Poghosyan just 1 minute to win 9-0.
