Being loyal to the fundamental principle of apolitical status of international football, to day Football Federation of Armenia was neutral, avoiding any statements regarding the eruption of war from Azerbaijan side against people of Artsakh.
“Abide by the statutes and defined regulations of UEFA and FIFA for situations alike, Football Federation of Armenia filed a complaint to UEFA and FIFA regarding the political statements of Azerbaijan Professional football league president Ramin Musaev, as well as publication of misinformation allegedly killed 13-year-old youngster from Azerbaijani town Naftalan and claim about possible provocation from Armenian side before the UEFA Europa League qualifying play-off match between Legia Warsaw and Qarabağ FK.
Conversely, the representatives of Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, as well as the clubs of that country are actively using football platform for political statements, spread of disinformation, manipulation of facts and militaristic behavior on the football field. During that same time Azerbaijani armed forces are bombing Armenian civilian settlements, where Football Federation of Armenia has recently inaugurated football field for children. In particular, the small artificial field planted in village Mets Masrik (Vardenis community) was the best opportunity for kids to make first steps in football. It has been several days already, that Vardenis and Mets Masrik are being bombed heavily, obstructing people’s day-to-day routine and the ability of youngsters to play football. This is the shortest way to humanitarian crisis.
Football Federation of Armenia strongly condemn the alike approach of Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan and stay loyal to the fundamental principle of apolitical status of international football. At the same time, we urge members of International football family to not give way for political statements of Azerbaijani side and condemn militaristic language on and off the field.
P.S. Football Federation of Armenia has already informed all member associations of UEFA and FIFA about these actions of AFFA”.
