Armenian Presidential Palace hosted the award ceremony dedicated to the Republic Day, where the President handed state decorations.
Footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan was awarded First Class Medal of Services to the Motherland for his brilliant professional performance and worthy representation of Armenia in the world.
Answering the question whether the medal from the President can equal the goal in Europa League final, the player said: “I won’t compare the medal with any goal, you can’t compare those things. When Serzh Sargsyan was handing me the medal, he thanked me for good representation of Armenia.”
He also spoke about coming to the pitch with Armenian flag on his shoulders after winning the Europa League final.
“Raising your flag is an honour for anyone. It’s always a pleasure for me to wear the Armenian flag. I thought about doing that for a long time, and I did it in the final,” the player added.
