Bronze medalist of seniors’ European Championship 2017 and participant of Rio Olympics Sona Poghosyan is one of the most promising female weightlifters in Armenia. Yesterday Sona won a bronze medal in Juniors World Championship.

Sona told Mediamax Sport she was certain she would earn a medal in the World Championship if she worked hard.

“I knew all my competitors well. Winning the medal wasn’t easy as I had back and shoulder injuries, but I managed to compete despite them,” the athlete said.

She lifted 223kg in total and she believes it was the most weight she was able to lift at that moment.

Poghosyan failed to complete the 3rd attempt of clean and jerk: “The pain took the better of me and I couldn’t complete the exercise. But those kilograms would’ve given me nothing but simply successful use of the third attempt.”

Now Sona wants to recover from her injuries and prepare for the juniors’ European Championship.
