Rio Olympics gifted many unforgettable moments to Armenian athletes and sport lovers. However, one of those moments, the first gold medal after a 20-year break, wasn’t the only exclusive thing to happen.

This issue of Mediamax Sport’s In One Shot series tells about the other famous event.

It’s difficult to find an Armenian sport fan who wouldn’t know sportscaster Karen Giloyan. During the Beijing Olympics he made an announcement, promising he would shave his head if any Armenian athlete won a gold medal.

Giloyan had to wait for two more Olympic competitions until wrestler Artur Aleksanyan finally brought gold to Armenia in 2016.

He beat Daniel Lugo (Cuba) in the final match of the 98kg category on August 16. Not even an hour later, he was already shaving Giloyan’s head at Carioca Arena 2, gaining attention from not only Armenian, but also foreign journalists.

The sportscaster believed in success of Armenian athletes and expected to return bald from Rio Olympics. He even brought the hair clipper with him!

It took the new Olympic champion less than three minutes to do the job.

“I gave my word,” said smiling Giloyan, while Aleksanyan was busy with the hair clipper. “I can’t break the promise!”
