Ararat team and its head coach Nikita Simonyan have always reminded us the happiest moments in Armenian football.

But before becoming a coach, Simonyan made a great career in football, winning medals in the composition of USSR team.

In this new edition of “In one shot” series Mediamax Sport introduces Nikita Simonyan, who told us about his meeting with Pelé.

The King of football made a business trip to Moscow in 1997. He was conducting an advertising campaign for his coffee, which was highly consumed in Russia.

“It was a pleasant and unforgettable meeting, which I have always remembered with warmth. Pelé was accompanied by journalist Igor Fesunenko, who organized our meeting. Pelé said to me: “Nikita, forgive us please.” Quite surprised, I asked him for what I had to forgive them. Pelé smiled, saying “for defeating you back then”,” Simonyan remembered laughing.

Pelé remembered World Cup 1958, when Brazilian team defeated 2:0 USSR team.

“I have to admit that we fought hard in that match, but Brazilians were stronger than any other team. They were invincible.”
