Sport has always given beautiful displays of emotions. Even the most modest and taciturn coaches cannot hide their feelings sometimes.
This issue of Mediamax Sport’s In One Shot series presents one of such moments. The photograph was made in the qualification stage of pommel horse exercise in Rio Olympic Games on August 6.
The second coach of the Armenia gymnastics team and gymnast Harutyun Merdinyan’s personal coach Sos Sargsyan tells the story.
I dreamed that Harutyun Merdinyan will participate in the Olympic Games. The day he made it to the top 8 and qualified for the final was indescribable.
When I saw how many points he earned, I knew he would be in the final. It was a good result for Harutyun. He got the chance to compete for the medal.
The moment he came down from the platform, I just kissed his forehead, showing him my happiness and pride in that way.
Harutyun is like a son to me. I’ve trained him since he was 6 years old, and this achievement was a big one for us. We managed to do something very important for our country. Years of hard work weren’t in vain.
