Grandmaster Sergey Movsisyan is happy to have represented Armenia and won the World and Olympiad gold with the national chess team.

The player has told Mediamax Sport that the decision not to perform with the national team was a tough one for him.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t played well recently and I couldn’t help the team. I was good in individual competition, but the picture was exactly the opposite in team tournaments. I really want to be helpful to our national team, so the recent bad performances made me decide to stay out of it this year. It was very difficult for me, but I believe that was the right thing to do,” said Movsisyan.

He has told that playing for the national team has been a joy and honor for him. Movsisyan is proud to have made good achievements with the team.

“It has been a great honor to play with the others. I acquired so much experience in chess and I hope that the rest of the team will perform well in the Olympiad this year,” he added.

Movsisyan has yet to make the final decision about playing for the national team next year and further. The player believes he might return to the team if he is in a good shape by the end of the year: “I will compete in several tournaments in early 2018, in the individual European tournament. I have made no plans yet for the second half of the year.”

Currently, the Armenian national chess team is comprised of three members: Levon Aronian, Gabriel Sargsyan, and Hrant Melkumyan. The fourth member will become known in the end of the Armenian Championship, as the winner will join the national team. The Chess Federation has made no statements so far about the fifth member. Everything will be known in May.
